PRCA Awards 2012
Last night the PRCA Awards 2012 ceremony took place at London’s Hilton Hotel on Park Lane, as a host of companies were rewarded for innovative and eye-catching campaigns.
Surprises were kept to a minimum, as either companies with a proven track record in outstanding comms or individual campaigns that were tipped to do well picked up awards. John Lewis is perhaps the best example of this, as the retailer scooped up the ‘In-House Team of the Year Award: Private Sector and Charities’ and ‘Digital and New Media Award’ gongs. Some may be getting a little sick of the continued recognition JLP is receiving for their comms and campaigns, particularly when it comes to the all-important Christmas campaign (the 2011 ad won them the latter award), but it is hard to argue with the end product, as this year’s John Lewis festive offering demonstrates with heart wrenching aplomb.
Other notable winners include Stockport Metropolitan Council for its ‘Right Thing, Right Bin’ campaign and the NHS South of England’s ‘Health visiting might surprise you’. Both demonstrate simple, well-tailored campaigns, which cater to the needs of their respective demographics (as well as producing fantastic results).
The only real surprise of the night may have been the lack of campaign winners with an Olympic/Jubilee theme. VisitEngland’s ‘Holidays at Home are Great’ and the Woodland Trust’s ‘Jubilee Woods’ project were both worthy winners, however some may be left surprised that in a year of endless media campaigns that revolved around the 2012 festivities, only two in-house teams were recognised.
Nevertheless, one need only look at the list of winners and their campaigns to realise that the world of communications is still very much alive and kicking.
